Down On The Farm

Well my friends September is here and it is starting to
feel a bit like fall here in Michigan.
It's odd, but the air and days just 'feel' different.
(edited to add)  Except for today, it is
hot~hot~hot!!
I was up and down all night with the heat
and they say next week it is to be a cool 40
at night....only in Michigan
can you wear shorts one day and long johns the next...LOL!!

We have a new challenge up and running today at
and I have put together this awesome tile/mood board
to give you lots of inspiration!

Our theme is
'Down On The Farm'

I made a rather large card as the dies I used were rather large themselves!

I got in my scrap bags of papers and pulled out a piece of
what I believe was from SU paper
and used it for a sunny background!

I have to admit, I ordered this die  (Elizabeth Crafts laundry) specifically for this challenge
(I am known to do crazy things like that)
and have to say it was very 'picky' but also very fun to work with.

I cut the quilt ,then ran a bit of distress ink over it to pick up the design a bit more.
The 'long johns'  were cut from cordinations paper, then sanded to give
a bit of detail and a worn look.

Check out those tiny, tiny clothes pins...goodness yes,
I cut them out and glued them on...very fiddly!

Grass, chicken feed (glitter and frantage) and of course the chickens  (Impression Obsession) were added
for an even more 'farm look'!

To finish I added a stamped sentiment and ribbon and jute twine!

Now you have to, and I mean HAVE TO
head over to the Double D blog and see
what the design teams have created....
WOW...gorgeous and fun, fun creations!

Join in with us too,
as always, there is a fabulous prize to be won!

LOVE this and adore the chookie dies, you will have to tell me where they are from. My dad had lots of chooks and as a child I loved them, they all had a name... :)

OMG ... you never cease to amaze me with your creations! We ALWAYS hung clothes out to dry when I was growing up and this card just brought back so many wonderful childhood memories! I loved the fresh smell of our bed sheets after they had been 'dried on the line' and do you remember 'Pants Stretchers'? I can remember having to put them into the pant legs of my dads work pants while they dried on the line to give them the crease. SEE told you ... fun childhood memories! LOL Awesome job my friend ... I wouldn't have had the patience to work with all these little pieces ... I commend you!!!

Diane, this is so cute. Lots of work, but just adorable. Brings back memories to me too. We lived near a railroad track and it never failed when we hung clothes on the line a freight train would come and blow soot on our clothes. So, when we heard the whistle, we had to run quickly and gather the clothes till it passed. Then we would have to rehang them again. As a child, it was most frustrating. You certainly capture this. Great job!

I've been loving this card, but reading about it makes it even funner! Inking the quilt, distressing the long johns -- perfect! Love the sunny background and the chickens underneath. That clothesline die set it so CUTE! I've bought fiddly dies with tiny pieces that make me crazy and now I watch out for them, but this is so awesome and worth it! Darlene mentioned the pants stretchers -- I sure do remember those! Here's another memory -- On a hot, sunny day mom hung wild berries in cheese cloth bags on the clothesline. Every now and then she'd go out and squeeze the juice into a bucket underneath the bag, and that was the beginning of jelly (no seeds). We lived in hot, hot southwest Missouri then. Your card sure did bring out a lot of memories!
