Nature At It's Best

I just had to share our little "find" at our "North" home. We took a little mini vacation over Memorial weekend to our "North" home as we call it on Lake Huron. We arrived later then usual and it was dark. How we managed not to drive over these is amazing, as these were laying in a little dug out nest in the middle of the gravel driveway! My hubby discovered 2 eggs in the morning, the next day there were 3, and the next 4.

The mother bird is a Killdeer, we tried to stay away from her as much as possible, but when we were around, she would put on her "broken wing" act to try and lead us away. I think when we left on Monday night, she was gld to see the backs of us!!

I read that both the male and female birds take turns sitting on the nest, that they will hatch out in 24 to 28 days and will look like little yellow pompoms with sticks, I think we will probably "miss the show".

Just had to share these very hard to see eggs!
